As of February 2025, Bali is home to Indonesia’s first Clip ‘n Climb centre, bringing a fresh and dynamic approach to active entertainment. Originally established in New Zealand in 2005, Clip ‘n Climb has grown into the international market leader in fun climbing, boasting over 360 centres across 50 countries. Its unique indoor climbing concept prioritises fun, safety, and inclusivity, making it a standout in the leisure industry.
The new Bali centre features 31 fun climbing challenges and 37 climbing lines designed for all ages and skill levels. With climbing growing in popularity across Indonesia, this new venture is set to redefine leisure in the region. But what inspired its owner, Mika Denissot, to take the leap, and what insights does he have for future investors?
We sat down with the entrepreneur behind the new Bali centre to learn about his journey, the opportunities and challenges of launching in Indonesia, and why investing in Clip ‘n Climb is a game-changing opportunity.
“Almost a decade ago, I saw Clip ‘n Climb online and instantly fell in love with the concept. Living in Indonesia, where both climbing and playgrounds are on the rise, it was the perfect opportunity to blend both worlds.”
For those looking to invest in the leisure industry, Clip ‘n Climb offers a unique combination of family entertainment and physical activity, making it an attractive business model in markets that value active experiences.
Mika is no stranger to adventure. Having introduced canyoning to Indonesia in 2007, he went on to establish ICOpro (Canyoning Organization for Professionals), training over 20,000 canyoners and 500 instructors across 95 countries. He also runs a coaching school in Singapore, helping professionals refine their business skills in management, marketing, and psychology. His business mind set and passion for adventure, makes him an ideal investor for Clip ‘n Climb.
Despite his background, Mika is honest about both the opportunities and the challenges of launching a Clip ‘n Climb centre. Built from the ground up with a custom design, the project came with its hurdles. “The process had its challenges, particularly with administration and booking systems, but the team was incredibly helpful in resolving any issues. The engineering and installation team was exceptional, ensuring a seamless build.”
Beyond the innovative fun climbing challenges, another strength of Clip ‘n Climb lies in its ability to create repeat customers through a proven business model, and strong brand recognition. “I love that Clip ‘n Climb allows people to play and learn at the same time. Children build confidence and develop new skills through a variety of challenges, each with different heights, shapes, and structures. Combined with our strong marketing of a family-friendly environment, this keeps visitors coming back time and time again.”
Though still in its early days, Clip ‘n Climb Bali has received overwhelmingly positive feedback. “People appreciate the high quality of our products, the energy of our team, and our strong safety standards. Plus, our vegetarian and vegan restaurant has been a huge hit with visitors.”
Looking ahead, the entrepreneur has big plans. “I’m in discussions with the Indonesian Federation of Climbing to build an international climbing gym in Bali. I also plan to work with EP Climbing to expand into five-star hotels, international schools, and other high-profile locations.”
For those considering opening a Clip ‘n Climb centre, his message is clear: “Be prepared for the journey. The product is fantastic, but the process can be complex, especially in regions with different business customs.”
Mika’s journey in bringing Clip ‘n Climb to Bali is more than just an entrepreneurial success story – it’s a case study in smart investing. As consumer demand shifts towards active entertainment and repeatable experiences, the time has never been better to explore opportunities in this space.
